Structures tend to measure, delineate, regulate and mark bodies. Boundaries of Beige explores organisational structures and how they work their way into our daily lives. Whether this happens through duty, responsibility and necessity, or self-imposed routines and habits, the results are not dissimilar. We are surrounded by regulations, procedures, instructions and guidelines. These define boundaries, instruct codes of behaviour, and provide step-by-step manuals to navigate daily tasks. If routines form foundations and support everyday living, the habitual can be as much a source of comfort as it can signal a gradual blunting of the senses.
“Boundaries of Beige” exhibition combined installation, film and small-scale sculpture by Marzena Topka and sound performances by Beige (Adam Burges, Jeremy Cope, Anetta Nevin, Ben Rose and Jerome Turle) to imagine an atmosphere where, if you listen closely, the frequency dismantles and creates its own structures. This is where the routines, which organise bodies, are potentially sabotaged. Structures are tampered with as they pass through different material and fluid states, literally and virtually.
